Rambling Wreck and Rocky Top

The second post in our three part Mixed Up College Football Preview is up over at SP Sports. This one is written by Jim, a Georgia Tech fan, about Tennessee. And oddly, we all have high hopes for a team that is so undisciplined that even their punter got a DUI. So go check it out, give us your thoughts, and then hum Rocky Top.

Also, if you are unlike us and not all consumed by sports at this moment, go over to the Politics page for a good piece by Michael Orr on how local government is closing down the busing system in Columbia rather than increase the sales tax. Or, for something less depressing, go over to the Society page and read the iTunes Celebrity playlist that I’ve compiled.

Mixed Up College Football Preview is Here!

Football season starts today. Well, at least the anticipation of the start of football season starts today. As we’ve mentioned, the premise to our Mixed Up College Football Preview is that Trey, a Duke fan, writes about Georgia Tech, Jim, the Georgia Tech fan, writes about Tennessee, and Jeff, the Tennessee fan, writes about Duke.

It may not be the most insightful or serious stuff, but it should be interesting to see what happens when one of your friends tries to write about the team you rabidly root for. As always, comments are encouraged especially from the person who’s team has been written about.

So go over to SP Sports and read the first post in our Mixed Up College Football Preview called “Georgia Tech Fans Have No Assholes”

Don’t Trade Francoeur!

For the weekend readers there is a very short rant from me at SP Sports about how it was reported that the Braves were willing to trade Francoeur and what will happen if the Braves pull the trigger on that unthinkable trade.

Over at The Stormy Present Politics page you can read a great guest post from Michael Orr of the AD Hall. It’s a smart post about how people in Columbia, SC refused to pay an extra cent in sales tax, which means that the city’s bus system is possibly going to go under. Talk about ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country so long as it doesn’t cost you anything.

Plus, Brad’s post revisiting the importance of satire is still up at the Society page and today or tomorrow I’ll have one that details my Celebrity Playlist for iTunes.

Lastly, get read for some college football posts next week!

I Want Duke to Run Up the Score on JMU

Good week to be a Stormy Present reader. First, at SP Sports we’ve got a post about what cities should have MLS teams and what cities shouldn’t. For some reason this post raised the ire of some folks so the comment section makes for some interesting debate.

Then over at The Stormy Present Society page you can read a post I put up yesterday about what the theater should be about (note that I wrote that post just to move the Michael Savage post out of the prime spot because that post is garnering way to much attention for what it is). Thankfully, Brad wrote a good post revisiting the issue of satire which he’s written about before. This time he looks at the issue in relation to the New Yorker cover. It’s good stuff, so go to the Society page and give Brad’s post, thankfully now in the prime spot, a read.

Lastly, put me down for 4 wins for Duke this year. Write it down, take a picture, I don’t give a …

Preseason Football Posts with a Twist

The Braves are sucking it up so I let’s start to give up the ghost and get ready for some football. This is good because Jeff has yet to post anything on that part of the site because he doesn’t care about baseball. Plus, our expertise in the area of college football is radically better than it is in baseball (although I am far better at fantasy baseball than I am at fantasy football). Therefore, I’m happy to announce that we will be doing a bunch of fun stuff for football season including weekly picks.

But to start everything off we thought it would be funny to write a preseason article about the three college teams that we each pull for. Except we aren’t going to write the article about our team, we’re going to write it about one of the other guy’s team.

Confused? Well look at it this way, Jeff’s team is Tennessee, Jim’s team is Georgia Tech, and my team is Duke. So rather than write articles about our own teams, I’m going to write an article about Georgia Tech, Jim’s going to write one about Tennessee, and Jeff has to write one about Duke.

So look forward to that triple threat of preseason punditry at SP Sports.

Start Your Week Right

Over at SP Sports you can read the newest post about my impressions watching an MLS game played in Toronto’s marvelous stadium and some suggestions on what the MLS needs to do to grow the sports. Also, you can scroll down from that post to read about whether or not people should score baseball games or if that is too much of a distraction.

Over at The Stormy Present Politics page you can read my review of The Audacity of Hope. And if you scroll down from there you can read another post about Senator Obama, this one not as glowing because it is about his idea to sponsor a freaking race car.

Then at the Society page you can read the newest post about Michael Savage’s statements concerning autism, which are insane. And if you aren’t too incensed by what Savage said you can scroll down and read Brad’s excellent post about The Who.

Plenty to choose from and more to come, so enjoy this week’s reading.

Keep Score with The Who

Two new posts. The first is at SP Sports and is about whether or not one should score a baseball game or if that is too much of a distraction and makes the overall enjoyment of the game less. The second one is over at The Stormy Present Society and is all about The Who. Obviously one of the great all time bands, but Brad gives an in depth argument for why they are actually underrated. (Come to think of it, the proof that they are under-appreciated is that people always think the song Baba O’Riely is called Teenage Wasteland.) So whether you like music or sports you’ve got something to read.

So enjoy those posts, Keith Moon style (ie read them while surrounded by booze and loose women).

X Rated Puppets

Tonight I’m going to Q Street, which is a musical with puppets but apparently very very funny (the guys who wrote it wrote the musical episode of Scrubs). So expect either a review of that or a discussion about musicals and plays in general at The Stormy Present Society page in the near future.

Until then, you can go to The Stormy Present Politics page to read my book review of The Audacity of Hope by Senator Obama. I read the book a year ago and then wrote a review of it a month ago so read it with that in mind (ie be gentle if you’re going to tear it to shreds). Anyway, give it a read and let me know what you think.

Also, the creaters of The Stormy Present have been cooking up some big plans for things to do with this website, especially once football seasons starts. So hang in there with us until then and I promise you won’t regret it.

Castrated Whiners

Before going any further I think we should make it clear that if you don’t like The Stormy Present, we’ll cut your nuts off because this is a nation of whiners.

Now that that’s out of the way, Senator Obama is sponsoring a race car in a NASCAR race and Brett Favre is un-retiring. So of course there are new posts.

Over at The Stormy Present Politics page you can read about why Senator Obama is crazy for sponsoring a race car.

Over at SP Sports you can read about the two reasons for why I am glad to welcome Brett Favre back. One has to do with my being a football fan and the other has to do with my being a Duke fan. Seem strange? Well read the post and you’ll get it.

Art Loeb Delirium

I just got back from a hectic camping trip that required hiking for about 31 miles. Thus, everything I’ve written today is probably just jumbled crap brought on by delirium caused by the pain of my blisters. Nevertheless, the blog and I will soldier on.

Over at The Stormy Present Society you can read my hastily put together review of the new cd by The Roots. The cd, called Rising Down, is high quality so I recommend you check it out even if my review of it sucks.

Then at SP Sports you should read my garbled thoughts concerning rally caps. When is appropriate to wear a rally cap? I think with some discussion we can settle this issue once and for all. So read my post and add your thoughts.
