Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are Scientologists

There is no other way to explain the horror that was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Lucas and Spielberg are scientologists.

To read the official Stormy Present review of Indy 4 go over to The Stormy Present Society page where Jim has a nice well thought out rant against the movie that seeks to destroy happy childhood memories. It’s not only a funny post about how bad the movie was, but it gets into the idea of how the first three movies dealt with issues of the Divine in a way that was accessible to everyone whereas Indy 4 does not. So give it a read, then check out the comments and then leave your own comment describing why you also want to beat Spielberg and Lucas to death with copies of the first three Indiana Jones movies.

Also, if you are not too depressed after realizing that yet another great movie franchise has been ruined,  you can scroll down on the Society page to join the debate about who the greatest actor of our generation is. Also, you can read about how my preseason baseball predictions are looking pretty good at SP Sports and read about how I would react to an Obama/Clinton ticket at The Stormy Present Politics.

The Once and Future Posts

What can I say, we’ve been slack. However, my work day is coming to an end and I am on my way to the ‘Internet Store’ to upload two posts I’ve written. The first will be over at the Society page and will be about trying to figure out who the greatest actor of our generation might be. I have thought this out and the answer surprised me, but it is hard to argue against it. So I encourage you to go over the Society page and try and argue against it.

The other post that will appear shortly is about what would happen if at this point Senator Obama picked Senator Clinton as his running mate? Over at the Politics page we’ve already got two posts about Hillary miscues; one where she compares herself to Zimbabwe and one where she mentions the possible assassination of Senator Obama (both worth a read). Thus, would our dislike of her cancel out our favorable opinion of Senator Obama if she were on the ticket? So go over to the Politics page and wonder aloud with us.

Lastly, Jim has posted his review of Indiana Jones 4. He would like to let people know that it’s not so much a review, as it is a hate filled rant. So if you’re feeling a little angry, today, go on and check it out. If you want to stay happy, read it after you get a speeding ticket or something.

George Lucas Shattered My Childhood

I’m in South Africa. I should be writing about the Xenophobic attacks going on here and what it means in terms of South Africa, Africa in general, poverty, and/or development. Instead, my only thought after this weekend is how am I going to put my life back together after watching the new Indiana Jones movie?

George Lucas said he didn’t use much CGI. Well actually the entire end of the movie is in CGI. It was reported that Lucas originally wanted to make it a movie about “saucer men from mars” but they talked him out of it. Well actually it was about inter-dimensional aliens.

Seriously.

George Lucas and his buddy director not only owe me money for the fact that I had to pay to see that piece of crap, but they owe me some sort of compensation for the fact that the character that was so instrumental in my childhood has been soiled by this debauchery of a movie that was nothing more than an excuse for the producers to make money and for Lucas to play on his computer making CGI prairie dogs and aliens.

So don’t expect a post about what’s going on here in South Africa because all my efforts are now concentrated on first writing a post about how that movie destroyed all that was good inside me and then a post and letter that I will be sending to George Lucas to tell him that I will beat him to death if I ever see him.

But before that catastrophe I managed to put up some new posts. On the SP Sports page you can read about why I think Boston fans don’t deserve an NBA title. At the politics page you can read my post about how absurd it was for Senator Clinton to compare herself to Zimbabwe and read Jeff’s post on how absurd it was for Senator Clinton to say she was staying in the race because of what happened to Robert Kennedy. Not a lot of Hillary Clinton fans here at The Stormy Present.

Fortune and Glory *updated*

Today is a great day in American history. Not because Barack Obama has essentially tied up the Democratic nomination, which is great. But because finally, after more than 10 years, Henry Jones Jr is back. That’s right, today is Indiana Jones day. Everyone needs to immediately watch all 3 of the original movies, then run to the nearest theater and partake in the glory that is Indy’s return. I would write a 5 page post on why the Indiana Jones trilogy is one of the greatest pieces of film ever, but Raiders of the Lost Ark is starting.

UPDATE

Now that the movie is out, please feel free to comment and let everyone know how it was.

Bad Economics

Like an overanxious banana republic, I think we’ve oversaturated the market after our weekend flury of posts.

If you’re trying to catch up with things, go to the Society page and scroll down to Jeff’s post about the global economy as seen through the eyes of a bike shop. Then move up from there to read Jim’s post about how we should all be watching 30 Rock. Then move up from there to read my post on what adventure is all about (comparing Alby Mangels to Bear Grylls). By the way if no one reads that post I’m going to flip out because it gets to the core of what I’m about. And then end off your Society page reading with a guest contribution from our friend Derrick Farmer who analyzes how music has changed over the years and how the avid music listener can adapt to the world of the ipod.

Tomorrow and Friday I think we should have some new content, so catch up on your reading while you can.

Possible upcoming posts: (It seems like an ok idea to every once in a while add to the end of these updates thoughts on potential posts that I, or we, have been ruminating about and might manifest themselves into full fledged posts in the near future. So here goes.) What Cavs GM Danny Ferry should do to make the Cavs a real title contender next year, whether or not we should boycott the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, who is the greatest actor of our generation, and how the movie Rendition sucked.

Your Weekend Jimmy Hat

Once again The Stormy Present has your weekend covered like a jimmy hat. First of all, to any new comers, this is the main page with announcements about what new posts we have have up on our three pages. You can get to those three pages by clicking the links under The Stormy Present in the sidebar.

Now to the good stuff. Why aren’t we watching 30 Rock? Jim wants to know and makes a great case for why we should check it out. That’s got some good discussion on it so be sure to check out the comment section under that one (which contains a link to the funniest Tracy Morgan interview ever). That is at the Society page underneath my post, which asks, What is Adventure? I answer this by comparing Alby Mangels and Bear Grylls. See who is the truest bad ass adventurer by reading that post on the Society page.

The Politics page has a Top 5, which usually goes in the Society page, but this one deals with the top 5 most interesting Presidents (not including the obvious ones). So read that at the Politics page and then leave your own top 5 in the comment section.

Lastly, at SP Sports I’ve posted an article about how the older sports writers and analysts are still stuck in the past epoch of basketball in which ‘big men’ dominated. But clearly, they need to get with the program and realize that this is a new guard dominated era. Bet accordingly.

So enjoy the weekend and happy reading.

The Second Coming of Seinfeld?

Perhaps that’s just a teaser to get you to check out the society page, where I suggest the next great comedy TV show you should be watching (or buying the DVDs, as the kids do, these days). Once you read that, keep procrastinating from work by scrolling down and reading Trey’s definition of a Southerner.

If your boss is still in the crapper, check out Trey’s lovely suggestion that Democrats sack up and grow a pair on The Stormy Present Politics page.

Keep an eye on the sports page, as I’m about to post something revolutionary within the next couple days.

My Inner Republican

I consider myself a political moderate with left leaning tendancies concerning social issues, but every now and then I let my inner Republican out.

This time my inner Republican told me to finally get around to making fun of all the liberals who think Karl Rove is some boogie monster behind every move the Republican Party makes. He isn’t, and by assuming that he is, the Democrats shoot themselves right in their cowardly foot.

So read my little rant about how Democrats should buy a nightlight over at The Stormy Present Politics page. Also, if you scroll down after my post you’ll see Jeff’s post on how watching 7 hours of CNN induces insanity and if you haven’t read Jim’s defense of the Atlanta sports fan, over at SP Sports, yet, do so and then next time Bill Simmons tries to call ATL the worst sports city in America you’ll know he’s just being a complete Mass-hole.

What is ‘Politics’?

Jeff put up a great post that deals with how the Primary season and the news coverage of it is in no uncertain terms, mind numbing. He gives his account of what it is like to watch CNN cover the Indiana and North Carolina primaries for over 7 hours. The fact that he is still alive to tell us about his experience is amazing in and of itself, so give it a read over at The Stormy Present Politics page.

In terms of discussion, I proceeded to rant in a comment on Jeff’s post about what ‘politics’ means to people like us as opposed to what it means to people actually in the business of politics. So join in that discussion because it is always fun to deride the media and politicians.

Lastly, we have some new links including one that goes to Jim’s Not for Tourist site. Another one to check out is Seeding Spartanburg, which Jeff and I used to read back in the day and is a great place to keep up with the goings on in Spartanburg and South Carolina along with purposeful musings about life and politics in general. All in all, now more than ever you are able to cruise around on this site and waste even more time at work. You are welcome.

Where’s The Stormy Present Band Wagon?

Strangely, while readership was down last week, the number of comments was up. And they were comments from random people who stumbled across the site. As a reminder, no matter how you get here, you are encouraged to take part in the discussion by leaving a comment. So explore The Stormy Present universe by clicking the Stormy Present links in the sidebar.

For instance, the Top 5 TV shows over at The Stormy Present Society page (link on the sidebar) has generated a lot of discussion as has The Global Economy as Seen Through the Eyes of a Bike Shop, which is also at the Society page. So go comment on those posts.

As for new stuff to read, there is a great new post at SP Sports (link on the sidebar) in which Jim defends the Atlanta sports fans against attacks calling them the worst sports fans in the country. He does so by looking at the ‘band wagon’ fans that have rallied around the Hawks (who unfortunately lost to a spoiled and vastly overrated Celtics team [I like KG, but he is a choke artist]). So overcome your mouring of the Hawks loss by reading that post and then jump onto the Cavs band wagon (former legendary Duke player Danny Ferry is there GM, so I’m already on board).
